MIXED ROWING WON SCULLING BLADES FOR THE CLUB (not just Morgan!)

What a fantastic weekend of racing! Bristol showed that they aren't a club to be reckoned with especially when it comes to mixed gender racing. In the 8 the men were so nervous that a bottle was passed around the boat for them all to wee in! Luckily the girls weren't aware of this until the apple juice was being poured over the side!

Due to all efforts in the mixed events, Bristol won a set of Concept 2 sculling blades which made paying the extortionate £15.38 just about worth it!! Bristol came 2nd overall to a very beastie Thames.

WS3 8 won both days, Dom and Morgan won in the pair and (mens) S24+ Won on Saturday.

The novice men got through a load of rounds in S4 and NV events on both days also reaching the finals. Novice women put in a couple of good races, as did Janet and Graham in their 2x debut and mini-crusher's NV4+. It was a cracking weekend and there is a general consensus to add this one to our racing calendar!

This weekend is our very own Regatta which is the last Sprints of the Summer for Bristol Rowing Club, but don't cry because afterwards everyone is invited to Jihan and Julia's House Warming Party!! (more info to come)

Dee and Nicky forgot to book the weather!

The girls sold a whopping 37 tickets to the members of City of Bristol Rowing Club, the match was mentionned to be the match of the year. (with a special guest umpire!!) Unfortunately for the girls however weather has been unkind to them and with the imminent threat of rain and slippy grass, they have been forced to cancel rounders for tonight.

The match has been rearranged until Thursday 31st August, if people cannot make it the girls will refund you your ticket and likewise if there are people that are now available tickets are back on sale.

On the upside there still will be a social for the angels to watch over but it will take place in Zero Degrees from 7.30 onwards. It will be a chance for people to mingle and Stuey to collect helpers for the Bristol Avon Regatta.

Problem!

Dear angels,

Dee and I have been franctically busy organising the Rounders Match and BBQ and have forgotten the two most important things.

1.) We don't have enough BBQ's to feed 30+ people
2.) We don't have any Rounders Post, bats and ball

Please can we put out a request for anyone with rounders sets to get in contact with us, or with an easy to transport BBQ.

Finally the other detail we are now pondering over, as we have already estabilished the rules is how do we keep the beer warm if it is a warm sunny evening. We are open to suggestions.

Please help us with our quest for enlightenment

Rounders Instructions

Right, here's how to play rounder’s:
Two teams compete. (Teams to be decided on the night by random selection) Please bring your ticket with you as this helps with the team selection.

A toss of coin contested by the two youngest players of each team decides which team bats first.
The Rules
Infinite Swings. The striker has one good ball bowled to them. It's a no Ball if it’s not a smooth underarm action from the bowler, if the ball is above head or below the knee, if it bounces on the way to the striker or if it’s wide or straight at the body. The bowler's foot is outside the square area during the bowl. Should you wish you can run on a no ball, but once you reach first post there is no return. The waiting striker must wait well behind the back stop to avoid any obstruction to the fielders.

Any Hit - RUN! Any time the ball contacts the stick, even a "tip", it is a valid hit and the Striker must run. The ball may be struck anywhere! The Runners at the Sanctuaries may begin running as soon as the ball is struck -- whether it is a good hit or an Out doesn't matter, once the Runner begins to run, KEEP GOING!

Making a Run: Carry the bat, hold the post whilst at it. You can run to a post that has been previously stumped. Whilst the bowler has the ball in his square, you cannot move on, but if you are between Posts, you can carry on to the next. No more than one runner at a post. you can stay at a post with a new ball bowled should you wish. Play starts when the ball leaves the bowlers hand - at this point you can run. To score on getting to last (or fourth post) you must touch the post.

Scoring: 1 rounder if 4th Post reached and touched; 1 rounder if 4th Post reached on no ball (no catch out); 1/2 rounder if 4th Post reached without hitting the ball; 1/2 rounder if 2nd Post reached after hitting the ball; penalty 1/2 rounder for an obstruction by a fielder; penalty 1/2 rounder for 3 consecutive no balls (same striker); 1 rounder for a backward hit if 4th Post reached (you stay at 1st whilst ball is in the backward area); All awards are at the discretion of the umpire and they have deciding rights.

Striker is Out: The Striker is out if the hit is caught in the air or on one bounce with one hand.
Runner is Out: (A striker becomes a runner when they begin their run around the posts) By running inside a post. You're stumped at a post you are running to. By being outrun, by the runner behind you.

Timed Innings: We will have timed innings, this will mean that unless everybody is all out there will be two innings per team for 15 minutes each.

Final Word: THE UMPIRES DECISION IS FINAL
The Conventions
These are not official rules, but have been decided upon by the players to keep the game civilized and manageable.
Pulling Up the Sanctuarys. If a Runner, in his or her exuberance, pulls out the post, the runners team loose half a rounder for each post knocked over! Notify someone of a loose stake before this happens to you.

Obnoxious and Argumentative Players. Certain players tend to get very upset when thing don't go the way they want them to; TOUGH! Feel free to ridicule them.

Little Children or Senior Men. Give them as much help and encouragement as you can. Help them have fun. If they hit the ball, Cheer! Don't plug them out just because you can -- fall down, drop the ball, help them run, whatever. Because, always remember the real reason we are playing this game...

Is there anybody out there who would like to take the role of umpire? We could do this as job share, where someone takes the first innings and then after a refreshment break someone takes control of the second innings. This job would suit someone with an authoritative voice, who's not afraid to go against the grain and make decisions in tense situations. It would look great on your CV! Team Captain x2
Is there anybody that would like to take the role of team captain? Obviously this is a particularly difficult role and requires a confident team player to step up to the mark. The Captains need to be able to build morale, lead the warm up and stretch down, give team pow-wow's in refreshment breaks, enforce the umpire’s decision to the team and ensure the team is behind the back stop when batting. Mixing it up!

The senior Men and Woman were wondering how to spice up their Summer rowing training so have decided to row together! Most of these outings have been taking place in the ungodly hours of the morning because this seems the only other time in COB rower’s lives they have free but Us Angels think it’s because the Men don’t want to harm their hard core reputations by being seen to row with girls!

Early mornings should be the best time to row but a few members don’t seem to be able to function at such an hour – Just today Miss Hogan had loss of speech, Miss Maunder was trying to attempt to row on stroke side with a bow side blade, Mr Mumford caught a crab while backing down and Miss Lancaster was no where to be seen until she rang to inform the crew she had set her alarm for PM instead of AM but we think she actually slept through the alarm because the night previous was spent in the company of Miss Green and a few bottles of wine!

Summer Sculling

Sculling seems to be the 'in' thing this Summer at Bristol Rowing Club – even Dom was seen having a birthday scull and managed to get to half slide – well done Dom!

But one of Bristol’s pro Scullers was keen to show off his ability and after picking up some speed was convinced nothing was going to get in his way – not even a bridge! Mr Pain came out the other side with half an ore but still upright in his boat! Luckily a passing double gave up one of their blades and everyone arrived safely back at the club!

There has also been reports of a Mr. Kadinopoulos giving some coaching on steering and in doing so crashed, which led to a full capsize!

Keep it up Rowers – the docks has never been more entertaining!

Ashton Court

A certain COB young lady learnt a few valuable lessons to be remembered when at a festival:

1. Charge your phone before you go (despite lack of signal this is still helpful when trying to find your friends)
2. Don’t arrange to meet someone at a portaloo (there were at least 60)
3. Don’t cycle in the dark, under the influence on a golf course!

On a positive note us Angels were inspired by the ‘FUNK IT UP’ dance school and will be attending classes to master our street and hip hop moves!

City of Bristol Dominate Another Regatta; stealing both the rowing and social headlines

The angels don't know where to start, when trying to report this weekends events. We have seen through the rain clouds: novices winning races, pots being won in a Men's Novice 4+ / Women's S3 8 / Men's S3 2- & mixed 8, cross dressing, moon-lit swimming and naked rowing races. Yes with Henley and the strenuous training regime over the boys were back in town.

First of all, as we are a rowing club we guess we better address the rowing. All crews had fantastic races from the junior 4+ to the vets 4+. Both LTR crews won their heats and lost out marginally for a place in the final, that both their oppositions went on to win. Rob Walster, Rob Parker, Phil and Mark lost their novices, Morgan and Dom dominated the pairs event, the senior women continued their winning streak and the City of Bristol Mixed 8's final was won by Rach Wright, Jihan, Stuey, Morgan, Steve, Nick Baker, Caroline, Katy and Cox Jimmy. Although in our eyes this race and late night men’s senior pair v double were too close to call and should have been a re-row.

Saturday evening is a lot more difficult to tell and pictures speak a thousand words so you can make your own minds up on what happened. Although the angels can say that everyone took part including the juniors!

Award for most camp of the night:
Morgan and Dom for their tight crop tops and Steve for his lovely dress.

City of Bristol does Henley in Style!

With the Men's 8 out of the racing on Thursday evening everyone attending Henley on Friday knew there purpose, to drink large amounts of Pimms and watch a City of Bristol Crew square up against the World Champions.

As the pair went by another rowing boat on the Thames was making a wonky line up to the start for their first race of the day. Inside this rowing boat was Baggy and his crew of two men rowing one handedly and drinking Pimms with the other a technique we believe to be quite tricky; pure class! Being the kind gentlemen that they are they offered three glamorous COB ladies that they had spotted walking along the toe path a lift up to the Barn Bar.

The angels watched several bottles and jugs get emptied over the day, and peoples composure slowly diminished. The days racing was ended by the Women's Dutch 8, which left the men with a lot of testosterone pumping through their blood. With the men looking so fine in their green blazers, we were sure they would be impressing the girls on the dance floor. Mr. Castle was so confident his outfit would serve him well, he had a little nap to recharge his batteries for the evening. Later a particular Irish Lass was keen to put on the stylish green blazer and tie despite the 30-degree temperatures and strut her stuff! This little lady soon disappeared with Stuey and left the rest of the crew to wonder, was he really teaching her the Windsor knot all that time?

With the men’s chances of winning thwarted by London on Thursday, some of the crew were keen to show their talents elsewhere and when Julia challenged them to an acrobatics competition people were quick to join in. A tip for all girls though for next time, wear cycling shorts under skirts not French knickers and don't do bridges in strapless corset tops!

All had a good time, especially Marcus who had to express his appreciation by being sick out of the window of the lodge!

Plans for a bigger and better Henley are already in the pipeline for next year.

The Henley 8, beat the Combined Services yesterday convincingly and achieved hopefully their first E of the tournament. The men will now race against London Rowing Club 'B' at 6pm tonight.

Ironbridge Regatta

A weekend of good racing by all crews, 43 pots won, Novice status lost by Jane, Liz, Rachy and Cat and on the stroke of midnight 200 rowers stood on the bank to watch Green, Maunder, Martin, Caya, Harding, Heappey, Tipping, McCormack, Grimes display their wares. As the blades were brought down the spotlights shone and the word went out that City were back!

The Men's 8 Qualify for Henley

Congratulations to Sam, Steve, Marcus, Charlie, Rob, Morgan, Dom, Stuart, Rhiannon and Ruthey on qualifying for Henley, the men will now race the combined servies on Wednesday, Day 1 of the Royal Regatta.

Friday evening saw happy faces as the men heard they had achieved their goal of the season and the women of the club realised they had an extra special reason to dress up. The women of the club never choose to be outdressed and with the men dressed by the top designer for Bowling gear the women are now on the look out for the dress of the year to accompany the mens lovely outfits. If anybody is looking for fashion tips for this years regatta the men will be wearing green blazers with a three quarter length sleeve.

The Angels have heard that there are a large number of supporters going up for the Friday and saturday to watch the racing and join in on the most prestigious weekend of the rowing season. There will be a large group of City of Bristol groupies located near the Remenham Bar to cheer the boys on during the Friday and Saturday.

Good luck boys and happy dress hunting girls.

Note: If you are fortunate to have tickets to the Stewards Enclosure remember dresses must fall to below the knee and Henley discourages bare backs and shoulders.

IRONBRIDGE

Tomorrow marks the start of the relaxed summer regatta season, with most of the Women's Squad and possibly the four most luckiest men in the squad heading off to Ironbridge on a mission to find silver pots. Several crews in the club are hopeful of popping the cherry and losing their novices this weekend.

Crews are doubling up on boats, coxes and crew so patience and big persuasion skills will be essential. We are hoping the seduction technique previously used on the marshals will be kept at bay and clean bribery with promises of cakes will be accepted!

With the likes of Dr Pain and Crusher hoping to lose their novice scullers, this regatta will prove to keep the spectators on the edge of their seats. Hopefully Crusher will remember to look behind him when racing this time and not rely on pure gut instinct and sixth sense!

With Rona out due to a broken finger, Liz is hopping in to make up the awesome double with Jane! Defiantly one to watch!

The novice 4 and novice 8 girls who have been ploughing up and down the docks morning and night are finally ready to show, they are the Iron Women of the Iron Bridge!

While most of the men are away the Senior women are certainly willing to play. There have been some reports that with the pressure of Henley behind them the focus of topless rowing at midnight has seemed to have taken priority over daytime racing! Any novice members are also invited for this friendly!

Tomorrow the fine male specimens of our club will go to Henley and compete in the qualifying race, which takes place at 6.05pm!

The men have been told to lay off the training this week to maximise their performance but with such levels of fitness the need to burn energy has never been greater! There have been reports from the girlfriends of the crew that they are practically having to fight their men off in order for them to stay in top fighting form for the big race. You can't ask for more support than that!

Us Angels will be saying our prayers for you - not that you will need it! GOOD LUCK

Womans Henley Report by our Dr Angel

Women's Henley regatta brought mixed fortunes for City of Bristol. Both the 8 (Katy, Julia, Claire, Caroline, Sarah, Liz, Jenny, Kirsty and Zoe) and the 4+ (Martina, Rach, Jihan, Janet and Jane) had high hopes of qualifying in the time trial on Friday morning, and proved themselves well worthy of moving on to the next round with tidy rows. Unlike UWE, but perhaps we won't talk about that here.....

Spirits were high amongst the 8 when they drew Putney Town, a crew they had previously beaten at Wallingford. As was obvious from their paddle down to the start, they were confident, and really meant business. They nailed their start and after the first 20 or so strokes were marginally ahead. However, Putney town then put in a monster push to take the lead. The girls valiantly pushed hard all the way down the 1500m course, each time edging back, only for their opponents to respond and deny them the lead. Even with 250m to go the deficit was sufficiently small that they believed they could still row through, however it wasn't to be and a verdict of 2/3 of a length was recorded.

Exciting stuff, and perhaps a blessing in disguise as Putney were somewhat 'well beaten' the next day by a very smart Edinburgh University crew who even had the audacity to wind it down to 22 for the last 500m.....the cheek!

The 4+ also went into their first round quietly confident, although facing a crew from Curlew who recorded a slightly faster time at the Met. Our girls were undeterred, as you might expect given their class! They amazed their support party (who were in the following launch) by blasting off the start in impressive fashion. Curlew were nowhere to be seen and the girls powered their way to victory by 3 1/2 lengths.

They then went on to face Thames A on Saturday. Disaster struck when Jihan's seat broke on the way to the start, but after being summoned by a call over the PA, two members of the 8 saved the day by driving hell for leather down to the start armed with a spare seat and flowered screwdriver! All was well and the girls were not phased, employing their blistering start once again to good effect. Alas, the pedigree of the Thames crew began to show and Women's

Henley was over for CBRC for another year.

Women's Henley is arguably the top regatta in the country for the women's squad, and both crews deserve congratulations for getting out there and being truly competitive at such a high level. This is the first time (at least in recent years!) that the club has had the depth and committment to send 2 high-calibre crews to Henley and bodes well for next year.

Well done girls!! Bring on the Summer Sprits!!

Well done to COB Women's 4 who beat Curlew RC by 3.5 lengths. They are due to race again tomorrow at 3.20 against Thames RC!

Is it a bird? No! Is it a plane? No! Is it Neil's super 8? Yey!

Chief Coach Bromwich has spent the last 9 months introducing the latest lot of female LtR rowers to the rowing world and improving their technique. Yes intially we did believe he was acting purely to his own interest of bagging one of the gorgeous girlies, but he has proven us wrong.

Just recently he has felt that the girls were missing a bit of oumph, so he decided to open the invite out to the whole of the novice women at City of Bristol Rowing Club to row in his Special 8.

Due to this he has come up with a new selection routine, where each rower has to first prove they are in fact female. You may be astonished, but this actually came with a 35% failure rate as the novice men also wanted a look in. By the end of it Neil was left with 8 super novices who are all committed to every rowing session before Ironbridge and the crew is feeling confident they may have a chance of a pot at a regatta one day.

To view this Super 8, they will be out on the water on Thursday morning at 6am!

The Woman’s Henley Preparation

There are only 2 days left until The Woman’s Henley and the pressure is getting high for our top 4 and top 8. Both crews have been given strict instructions to eat as much pasta as possible and stay out of any possible dangerous situations, we heard Liz is refusing to pick anything up with her right hand for risk of ruining her feathering technique!

The girls will be heading up to Lord and Lady Mc Alpine’s Lodge on Thursday night for some crew bonding and straightening out any last race plan issues such as what time is the last wee stop before the race and when do I have to stop eating Harribo!

Friday is when it all begins with an added qualifying race thrown in the works first thing to keep the ladies on their toes (or legs)!

And in the words of Head Cox Katy:

MAKE IT COUNT!!! do it for yourself, do it for the crew, do it for city of Bristol RC - let's show them what we are made of! GRRRRR!

Summer Loving!

As the temperature gets warmer and the summer wardrobe is revealed, us angels have become very excited at the prospect of some summer loving.

Mr Bromwich was seen out on Friday with a petite blonde and was acting rather shy. We have it on good faith that the angels were actually witnessing a first date.

We have consulted some body language books and it can be said that the signs were good. Well she didn't leave early and there was no violence!

On another sighting we have received several reports that a certain senior has seen rather a lot of a novice just recently. Please enlighten us with more information or if this certain couple need any angels relationship advice you know where to come! (all advice must be taken with a pinch of sugar)

Also there has been some old sparks reigited at a certain Golf Party! If you were at all sober enough to notice any of these goings on or want to report any other interclub relations feel free to e-mail us or simply post a message! X

A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL MET

COBRC Senior squads had a good crack at some top competition at S3 and S2
yesterday at the met.

Woman 8+ (Senior 3)
Had 2 strong races against Thames and uni crews and the like making it
through to a repecharge. They beat Vesta, Maidenhead, Manchester uni,
York city.

4+ (senior 2)
Rowing up a level to recent races, 4+ didn't quite make it through the 1st round but finished within a length of pack. Although this was a fast heat and comparing it to others they still managed to beat a number of respectable crews such as London/Marlow, Vesta, Trafford, Molesey.

Men's squad did fantastically well making it through to both S2 and S3 finals. They finished 3/6 in the S3 event and 6/7 in the S2 event after racing 10k (5 x 2k) which is worth a medal in itself.

City of Bristol were a club to be truly proud of this weekend and with Henley just around the corner the crews are expected to prove the same again if not more!

Way Under Par!

With Monmouth regatta cancelled due to reports of a collision with the Wallingford 8 and a dead sheep, COB had to divert their built up competitiveness somewhere else and it would seem pub golf was the best place for this.

The Golfers started in Stark bar at the top of Whiteladies. The bar man had a double take when he saw his new kind of cliental and was over heard asking one of the team where we had been playing earlier! The award for most authentic outfit goes to Miss Liz Gregg (pic to be added shortly!)

Scorecards were distributed and the game began. Again with a mention to Liz who brought out some golf balls with her and regularly dropped them in people’s pints so many holes in won began. This lead to scorecards reading hugely par and with another 8 venues to go it was questionable if people were going to make this. Being appointed chairman, Steve called time at the bar and the slightly unstable golfers began to move onto to the next hole.

Hole 3 Blackboy Inn; Rob Beever was a quick to bond with the natives in this pub and made friends with a local. He even managed to convince him to not only buy the birthday girl a drink but also to wear his neckerchief and hat. In return Miss Maunder went to give the Old timer a peck on the cheek and he suddenly grabbed the opportunity and got her on the lips! Us angels aren't’t sure if she was sick or just very disturbed by the experience!

In Sloanes, strawpeedos were completed by Morgan, Steve, Sarah, Julia, Nicky, Jimmy, Zoe and Beever. It is undecided who won but close between Julia and Steve, if someone can tell us who won it would be very helpful!

Roo Bar was Springboks and Sambucca's all round and Phil gave Liz her Haribo. Shortly after this act of kindness Liz was told it was time for bed and so she decided to drop out at this hole. We think the sweets were some kind of bribe for Liz to not get completely obliterated and surprisingly it worked, perhaps Katy should use this in the boat when more power is required!?

The Fine Line, was then the next chosen establishment to continue the game, however they accepted Jihan only and the other golfers were left outside, so award for most fashionable golfer goes to this young lady who later proved her outfit had pulling power also!

Baroque: 3 holes in one to be completed and was accomplished by all, Morgan left after this but if rumours are to be true he completed all 9 holes, what a good sportsman!

Comfi was the last venue where some serious dance moves took place, Miss Lancaster was spun in the air by various members of her crew, I think this was to convince her the set training plan was being completed! The best dancing goes to Julia and Steve when dancing to Grease Lightning, also to Julia for her air guitar move where she ran and slid across the floor on her knees, which have lead to serious burn marks! (Despite rumours the carpet burns were caused in a more intimate 1 on 1 activity, Miss Maunder still insists they were caused on the dancefloor!)

Awards for people who stayed till the bitter end goes to Jihan, Zoë, Katie, Kirsty, Jimmy, Beever, Steve, Sarah, Dee, Julia and Nicky.

There are vicious rumours that Beever didn't’t go home alone, could anyone expand on this vital piece of information?

Don't Miss.....

This bank holiday weekend promises to be a highly exciting one. Firstly Monmouth Regatta is finally here! City of Bristol are on a mission to gain some pots and if last year is anything to go by this should be a successful weekend!

One to watch: COB 8+ Vs Birmingham 8+. The last time these two crews raced eachother was at Henley where Birmingham booted our ladies out in the first round by only half a length, revenge is sweet!

Also our fellow UWE members will be showing how much their training has improved which is all down to the pure generosity of COB for the use of our wonderfully positioned club! I’m sure there will be good vibes between crews on that start line!?

After some hard-core racing and no work on the Monday you would be out of your mind to miss a very respectful round of Pub Golf back in Bristol. The fellow party goers are starting in Stark Bar but if you miss them here, the next few places to catch up with them are: Jersey Lilly, Black Boy Inn, Sloane’s, Roo Bar, Out Back Bar, Henry Africa's, Baroque then La Rocca.

On the Monday there is also some Cheese rolling going on, those going to Henley are recommended NOT to take part!

Hard Core Training for Mens' Squad

Wind, Rain or Hail – The Senior Men mean business this year. They have dedicated the next few months completely to their training. As the Novice Girls headed for the pontoon at 7am feeling pretty hard core to be up this early in torrential rain, the boys were coming in looking as if they had been swimming training rather than rowing training!

Us Angels have heard that the boat club is slowly becoming their permanent home so that there are no distractions from outside life. They are allowed one luxury item, which is a TV so they can watch one half hour of their favourite soap each night. Of course core stability exercises must be maintained throughout the 30 minutes!

Let’s just hope that the weather improves for them to make life easier!!!

After a hard-core weekend of racing us Angels suggest you join Julia and her posse for a round of Pub Golf to celebrate her 24th Birthday. Golfing attire is not compulsory but some sort of golfing element should be worn i.e. visor, polo shirt, golf shoes, anything with triangles on . . . .

It's going to be another unmissable night of much encouraged un-ruley behaviour!

20+10 PARTY

City of Bristol Rowing Club were out on mass on Saturday night, and all strict training regimes were thrown out of the window to celebrate Miss Green’s 20+10 birthday. It started off as civilized as can be expected in Bar Ha Ha, and Captain Jane was in high spirits after having been on the lash since 2pm!!

It was then straight onto La Rocca where stawpeedo teams were formed. Jane insisted the teams were to be based on home and away sides. So it was Northerners verses the Southerners and with Jane’s drinking reputation it was the Northerners who were favourites to win. Julia got together Bristol’s finest strawpedo experts – Steve, Stuart and herself leaving them short of one person so found Jimmy to sub in. The race begun and Southerners took a lead straight away and were beating the Northerners by ½ length (bottle), it was such a fair race even Stueys shirt was checked for damp in case he used his throwing technique, but he had the all clear, and celebrations were had on the dance floor!

A certain Mr Bathurst was particularly happy about the win and focused his celebrations on the ladies. Firstly a female rugby player took his fancy, and then later another lucky woman claiming to be part of a hen party (average age debated but 40 + would be a fair guess)! Good work Steve, all that training has turned you into a male La Rocca god!

Marcus then took it upon himself to introduce Nicky and Julia to THE La Rocca Challenge! Always being game for something different, Marcus had the girls full attention! The La Rocca challenge is where you crawl through the hole in the wall without getting glass in your knees or being thrown out the club! Julia went through first and got a clean run then Nicky followed unfortunately attracting the attention of a rather large bar maid. This hindered Nicky’s success, however instead of pushing Nicky back through which would have lead to a fail, the bar made took hold of Nicky’s legs rather aggressively and pulled her out as if assisting in the birth of a calf! The girls got away with just a severe telling off and are now on the La Rocca Tunnel of Fame! There are rumours that no one has actually done this before and Marcus just wanted a good laugh! So if you have also done the La Rocca Challenge us Angels would like to hear from you!

Dom was feeling very strong and repeatedly picked people up and spun them round. We heard he had watched strictly come dancing before hand and thought this was a good move! Also Baggy was reported wearing woman’s flip-flops, a fetish he has been known for in the past!

A great time was had by all and we think Jane hit the 20+10 with a bang!

Strawpedo Ring Leader Turns 30!

This weekend we will see the Captain of the ladies senior squad turn
30. Yes we know we cannot believe it either, that the ring leader of
strawpedo's, promoting facial hair in public places and part time pole
dancer could possibly have hit 30. She can certainly say that she lived
her twenties to the full. To mark the momentous ocassion Miss Green
will be starting the proceedings at Bar Ha ha from 8pm onwards. After
some merry drinking and networking the crowd will be steered towards La
Rocca for some fun and i'm sure if Miss Green is in the room mischevious
activities that is only justified by copious amounts of alcohol!

UWE Reap The Benefits In More Ways Than One

On Saturday we saw the controversial UWE/Bristol Boat race, in which UWE won all bar one. Where the UWE girls had a dreadful case of crabs. Although City of Bristol weren’t invited this year to race, it didn’t stop Bristol poaching our top rowers for their senior eight. Despite taking our talent Bristol were unable to beat UWE’s senior girls.

Towards the end of the day it became apparent that the clubs had organised a ball for all rowers. To which the five socialites of City of Bristol club, were sure their invitations had been lost in the post and seized the opportunity to network and rebuild relations with UWE. By the time four of the girls arrived, Miss Owen had already formed an allegiance with a 6ft 5, tanned blonde blue eyed, Bristol/GB trialist. In fact it can be said as soon as the music started Naomi and her beau were on the dance floor swapping more than just tactics.

Miss Heappey realised the best place to network was near the bar and took it upon her herself to introduce the girls to the good-looking members of UWE. However one introduction resulted in a shouting match between UWE president and Miss Maunder that Nicky tried to resolve with talking but resolved the situation with a more intimate approach..

As an outsider to Bristol, Dee decided in order to fully understand the rivalry she would sample both crews strokesmen. Dee had the “Time of her life” as she propelled herself off the stage into the hands of the two unsuspecting Strokesmen. Us angels were very impressed and feel Dee may have been studying Patrick Swayze moves. However on the other side of the dancefloor another type of dirty dancing was going on between Julia and a UWE old boy.

Us angels feel the girls had a successful night of networking and more than just telephone numbers were swapped!!!

Dinner for Two

The Angels were on the case this weekend when the dinner date that was auctioned at the rowing ball and won by a very eager Dee took place.

We had the chance to interview the couple and find out if there was any sparks flying if not from the heart from the food?

What was your first impression?
C: I did a pretty good Russell Crowe impression all evening I thought.
D: I'm really bad at impressions and once Charlie had ditched the Russell Crowe impression we got on a lot better!

What did you use as an ice breaker?
C: An ice pick
D: I was drinking wine so I didn't need any ice but Charlie used an ice pick when having juice! This was a scary moment as he played Donnie Darko disturbing music while hacking into the ice!

What did you think of the ice breaker?
C: It was very sharp
D: Charlie had the ice broken within seconds - was pleased the scary moment had passed

What did you cook for her?
C: Some Mexican stuff, including about 5 garlics and 12 limes. There was some guacamole, some salsa, some refried beans, some tortillas (which were actually more like poppadoms), some soured cream and a bit of token
lettuce. Then, the menu went from Mexican to Northern and we had a sticky ginger pudding with some chocolate sauce and ice cream.
D: Vegetarian Mexican Food and crackers!!

What did you think of his cooking?
C: Fabulous thanks.
D: Very Impressive.

Dee - How bad were his Jokes?
D: They were all quite bad apart from the Diver one!

Report from the head cox

Reporting back from a very successful weekend...... Saturday saw the
first regatta of the season at Evesham and the women's squad sent a whole
host of well prepared crews.

Naomi, Sarah, Julia and Jo, coxed by Jane. Looked like they meant
business, but came up against eventual winners Llandaff in the 2nd
round.

Lucy, Emma D, Rachel T, Toni, coxed by Katy/Christi. Showed their true
potential by reaching the third round.

to a proficient crew from Clifton College.

Not content with one hard day of racing, the Henley crews headed off to
Dorney lake for Wallingford regatta on Sunday. Both crews put in
sterling performances against the top crews in the country, finishing well in
the mix. I hope we are all now confident that we have what it takes to
compete at this level!

Healthy Competitiveness!!??

The first regatta of the season is upon us and City of Bristol Rowing
Club will be doing some hard core sprinting at Evesham Regatta tomorrow. What is more exciting is the novice men and women are experiencing their first regatta of their rowing career.

Nerves were showing last night at boat loading when one novice rower nearly broke down because her shorts got so wet while practicing their starts. Another male cox was also seen pacing, when asked what was wrong all he could say was "where is the strap, where is the strap"?

With a serious amount of Bristol crews racing, (particularly the 3 novice 4's) undoubtably they will come head to head at some point which will raise some very healthy inter-club competitiveness! Rumors were also flying round about how an unfortunate collision with a car and a fellow rower might happen minuets before a race!!!!??? EVERYONE COMPETING WATCH YOUR BACKS!

The Novice 8 who have been seen on the docks creating some serious energy have been promoted to senior three for the day which means after hammering Arial they will be up against Bristol's Henley eight! Now anything could happen! (Henley 8 please don't leave drinks unattended before the race)

On Sunday both Henley crews are off to Wallingford Regatta for some
multi lane racing on Dorney Lake. With some very stiff competition the girls are using this as a test of mental and physical power (and some serious cake eating).

With such an eventful weekend the all important question will be answered "are we an awesome henley crew or do we have to give Christi and Katy a whip for all training sessions!?

Let me just set the scene….

Private restaurant, decent food, ambient surroundings, fabulous company, champagne and outfits that any fashionista would be proud of.

So how does something that started so well, turn into such complete and utter debauchery? I’m guessing that copious amounts of wine (also affectionately known as ‘leg opener’), strategically placed on the dining tables, and the ‘after dinner drinks’ might be to blame, not to mention the 'Strawpedo Challenges'

What else could be responsible for three women chasing after one rather dashing member of the club? At one point, this ‘member’, for want of a better word, was tripping the light fantastic with one of the trio, whilst blatantly groping another dancing behind him, thus encouraging the tag team antics and making each of the trio more jealous of the others’ progress. The trio then proceeded to make even more desperate attempts to ‘out do’ each other and steal a kiss or a fondle at a quiet corner of the bar.

Could wine also be the factor that contributed to another member of the club deciding that backwards somersaults in a tennis dress were a good idea? Given the agility and precision these tumbles were performed, whilst still maintaining one’s modesty, I can only congratulate Miss Dunst’s gymnastics teacher for a job well done and her parents for taking the time, and money to perfect her skills to this standard.

Was it also the wine that resulted in some rather pornographic goings on in a dark, quiet corner of the restaurant? Or did Austin’s shifty, repeated firing of a stolen water pistol at patrons push him over the edge and into the arms of a rather fetching cowgirl? Austin then shepherded ‘Ennis’ onto the sofa where some rather heavy petting ensued, buttons were opened and zippers were undone and a few sneaky peeks were taken, much to the delight of all onlookers, who thought it was well overdue!

Was it the wine that resulted in a superhero losing her bag every ten minutes, only to be told that it was in the same place as it was the last time she lost it? Now Wonder Woman has amazing powers, but they failed miserably under the influence and the invisible jet was nowhere to be found, so the latex clad lovely was eventually escorted off in a regular taxi.

Was it the wine that also caused a tall, handsome, auburn haired club member to feel it necessary to remind every female, at every opportunity, that he has a girlfriend? This incognito star of stage and screen then had a few sly dances with a lovely lady with ‘something about’ her, besides the ample gravity defying hair product, and then asked a rather chavvy Private to walk him home?

Perhaps champagne was the contributing factor in the bidding war between the two gorgeous guys in the tuxes, or perhaps it was just a fight to be the alpha male, or maybe an attempt to replace the hideous, but famous, green lycra tights?

Even coupled-up members of the club, who typically shy away from public displays of affection, revelled in a little snogging session… but it would seem that despite these depraved goings-on, that all in attendance enjoyed themselves, and if the alcohol was to blame, then….

Extreme temperatures and maximum exposure!

Wow, what an amazing weekend was had by everyone.

We are not sure what was put in the drinks on friday night, but all Ergathon participants were fully charged for Sundays Ergathon. What a sight, all participants stripped off to their lycras and sweated it out on the ground floor of the Galleries in extreme temperatures with maximum exposure to the public.

The day was started off well with the mens squad going hard on the ergs despite the fact they have a 2K Test to do today. Jane and Caroline matched the men and in the first session they all rowed a cool forty minutes each and exceeded their required total.

The girls and Morgan then took over from the sweaty men, and went for a more cool five minutes on ten minutes off routine and went hard with all maintaining a spilt of sub 2.15 and for the majority of the time all remained sub 2.05. Undeterred by people dropping out the second session nearly managed to match the first session and left only 20,000 metres for the final session to complete, with thanks to Jane and Caroline plugging the gaps between Morgan's 40 minute pieces.

The final session was short and sweet, despite hesitation that numbers would be low due to unforseen circumstances the final session rowers smashed our target.

Dee and Rowena flirted and encouraged the general public to share their loose change and raised a further £69 on top of the sponsorship.

It was a very enjoyable day and any hesitation and doubt was erased when the ergers got into their rhythm.

Although totals have not been finalised, it is believed the day has raised over £1,000 for the club!

This Sunday 23rd April 2006 has finally arrived and it is up to you to support the club. Yes it's the CITY OF BRISTOL ERGATHON!!!

Your club is relying on you to come and support this unique fundraiser! Even if you don't fancy sweating it out on the rowing machines it will be great to have lots of people there either collecting monies or simply cheering on fellow rowers.

Bring your family and friends to have a go or just laugh at those dressed in their lovely All-in-ones (it is not compulsory to wear one)!

With the bank holiday weekend finally here we advise that you use this time to relax and think about the wonderful events that are soon to be happening in the rowing calendar. While The Men Are Away, Neil Will Play!!!

Neil took full advantage of the perfect opportunity to fulfil his life long dream this weekend while the men were away at Dorney Lake. As we all know it was Brunel's birthday and Neil took it upon himself to invite Bristol Rowing Club to his house for pre drinks knowing full well there were only ladies around. Low and behold at 7.30, seven of the girl’s squad arrived accompanied by a very good-looking lassie named Jemima Young.

Jemima expressed the 20-minute firework fantasia on Sion Hill in passionate shrieks. At the end of the fireworks, Neil quickly marched the crew back to his again with the promise of a bottle of £90 Cognac and Sainsbury's Finest Hors d'Oeuvres. The girls never failing to amuse themselves found their kicks in Neil's wardrobe. It started off business like with them modelling shirts and ties but then they found the bottom drawer LYCRA-A-PLENTY!

A 1950's multicoloured threadbare Lycra number was found; Nicky jumped at the chance to wear such a rare antique. The girls followed suit and jumped at the opportunity to change into the off the wall numbers which included boxers, shirts, tights, ties, lycra's and handkerchiefs. Jane was particularly excited at finding the green tights.

The night ended with some of the girls acting out Neil’s life and how he conducts his day as a solicitor and his nights as a Lycra fox.

How to Celebrate Brunel's Birthday!

On the evening of Saturday 8 April, the eve of Brunel’s birthday, there will be a free stage show and spectacular firework display in Bristol linked to the switching on of the new lighting system at the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The main stage for performances is now by The Observatory at Observatory Hill on the Clifton Downs near the suspension bridge, about a mile from the city centre.

7.30pm and 7.55pm Brunel Brass.

7.45pm acta will perform extracts from their community play about Brunel.

8.10pm Dance Bristol.

8.30pm Bristol Choral Society.

8.55pm Andy Sheppard performs specially commissioned piece with 200 saxophonists.

The Suspension Bridge lights will be switched on at around 9.10pm followed by the firework display. The event will finish by around 9.30pm.

All timings are approximate and may be subject to change.

The best viewing areas for the fireworks are on Brunel Way, the Brunel picnic park adjacent to Brunel Way and Sion Hill in Clifton. It is a 20-minute walk from the city centre along the harbour to Brunel Way. A ferry service will also be in operation during the evening.

M32 STOP OVER

Jenny was appointed chief van and trailer driver over the weekend and Sarah opted to accompany her on the way back from Dorney on Sunday.

Sarah was slightly hesitant, as it had taken Jenny 5 hours to finally arrive at the slough Travelodge on Friday. This wasn’t her choice of sleeping arrangement but after nearly running over a couple of rare looking deer trying to find Lord and Lady Mc Alpines lodge, she decided the safest option for all wildlife was the Travelodge after all!

Someone else who accompanied Jenny on one of the trips to the lake also reported a death of a pidgeon. When driving round a small lane in Henley at 60 mph the bird didn’t have a hope in hell to be honest!

Anyway back to the story – Jenny, being a highly-strung woman was adamant that they only put exactly enough petrol in the van to bring them back to Bristol even if it meant freewheeling the last part into Tollgate Hire!

Sarah, who had serious doubts about actually making in back to Bristol was unable to argue with this decision (very unlike her) and went along anyway.

So off they went – having made it onto the M32 moral was high and a much needed shower, food and bed was in sight only then to hear a spluttering then a few jolts and a sharp turn of the steering wheel by Sarah to just make it onto the hard shoulder before the vehicle came to a standstill. Yes the petrol ration had run out!

The AA were informed and Police pulled up to check the situation only to say “what do we have here, a broken down van and trailer and two girls – what a surprise!” This got Jenny’s back up and she had to step away before a fist fight broke out, so Sarah who quickly seemed a lot happier with the men in uniform that surrounded her took advantage/control of the situation!

Despite the adventures Jenny endured with the van and trailer we have to say she is a fantastic driver and hopefully this weekend hasn’t put her off future towings!!!

Interesting new couple

Can I just start off by stating, nothing gets past the Angels, EVER!

Now we don’t know all the details on this new relationship but if anyone could possibly fill us in on more details, we would be very grateful!

We Angels were flying around Bristol one night a couple of weeks ago and saw two faces we recognized in a car chatting. We were about to fly down and say hi but next thing they started snogging. Well we were in shock.

Now we feel it is safe to reveal the young man was our very own Marcus but it would be far too dangerous to reveal the lady’s name as she would be under threat from all the other women in the club!

We are not too sure whether this relationship has continued beyond this first date. We suppose it depends on whether or not the young lady likes Marcus’s new hair style.

ROWERS CATWALK

Some interesting items of clothing were on display this weekend at Dorney. With such risk-ay pieces being paraded around the lake, us Angels were wondering who exactly will set the trend for the summer season if any.

A most off the wall number - Janet's Hat, she has been wearing it for quite a while now and no one seems to have followed suit. Not too popular but could be one for next winter.

Red seems to be the colour of the month with Katy and Liz insisting boiler suits are the way forward. Hummmm I can't see this one catching on either but I'm sure Katy was wearing it first and Liz copied!

This weekend the senior womens' squad are heading down to Dorney Lake to battle it out for a most wanted seat in the Henley crew.

This selection process is very complex and consists of countless 1000m pieces!! But the biggest test will be 16 girls in one lodge with two bathrooms! I would like to see them fight that one out!

Champagne, canapés and buff waiters

With all the drama from the weekend’s events we haven’t given a mention to the lovely Rowena who turned a year older on Friday!

A few of the womans’ squad thought it would be rude to turn down a night of Champagne, canapés and buff waiters! The latter seemed to have made a run for it before the girls had got a look in but fun was still had in the form of helium balloons and a lion statue!?

The night lead onto K2 where VIP rails were stormed down and DJ’s hurled abuse at when they didn’t have the track Sweet Child Of Mine (big mistake) !! I’m sure they will have it next week the DJ was very scared and wouldn’t accept an arm wrestle to decide who had better taste in music!

Cowboy in La Rocca??

Our ladies captain Jane Green is one who is always up
for getting completely trolied followed by some
strange antics e.g Pole climbing, bull impressions and
piggy back wrestling. We discovered that Saturday
night was no exception!

A few of us were dancing (air guitaring, jumping,
picking each other up!?) when this mysterious
character approached the group and started dancing
around as if we had known the fella for ages! Usually
we would welcome a hanger on as we realize how much fun
we are but this certain person had a cow boy air about
them, and with tashes completely out of fashion, we
thought maybe this person isn’t going to do much for
our cool status in La Rocca! It was then that half the
tash fell off and revealed a blurry eyed Greener who
looked very impressed with the new look that was found
previously stuck to a sweaty wall in the bar area!

Apparently she was quoted as saying “I’m using this look
to scare the men off but it isn’t working and I’m
getting more attention!”

Well what can we say, the men in La Rocca have very
strange taste or Jane was mistaking a confused stare
for a provocative glance!

Letter from O’Neil’s Barman

I would be only too glad to fill in some of those blank spaces.

It started off a fairly tame Paddy’s Day in O’Neil’s and I thought I was going to have an easy shift until around 4pm when a raucous group entered the Bar in high spirits. It shortly became very obvious that it was going to get very lively as on their way in the bouncer was asked if he would look the other way while 2 of the girls tore down the shamrock decorations to drape around them selves!

The group demanded hats before they even ordered a Guinness and I certainly wasn’t going to say no to them. Especially as I was asked to kiss the girls so they could rally up this clicking device they had?

Once the shamrocks were painted on the English lassies faces the Irish amongst the group took it upon themselves to teach the rest of them to do the Irish jig. Well legs were flying everywhere so you could say they mastered it in seconds!

The group continued to grow as the evening went on. One man in particular really entered into the spirit of things and was determined to keep his big shamrock on his head as he thought it might attract a particular Irish lassies attention!!!!

They departed around 10.30 with talk of going to the lizard so I rang up the club in advance and told them to secure any loose fixtures in the place!

I hope this information helps Angels, and you can tell those girls they can visit us anytime ; )

Here's To An Eventful Weekend!

Well as you may all know tomorrow is the 17th March 2006 and for one nation it's an excuse for the largest alcohol fuelled party of the year. Yep that's right its time to don your greens and dig out your leprechaun hats. We have several fillies with Irish blood running through their veins and they have taken Friday afternoon to sit in a pub and drink Guinness in the attempt of qualifying for the lovely Guinness hats which we see each year on St Patrick's Day. In true Irish hospitality Dee and Sarah would like to open the invitation to anyone who would like to come along. They will be starting off in O'Neils at 4pm and then they are going on a quest to find anymore Irish pubs in Bristol. They also welcome suggestions to any locations of further Irish Pubs other than O'Neils.

The high light of this angel's weekend though is what's to come on Saturday, a whole day of watching dirty men fight it out on the pitch for the title of Six Nations Champion.

At 13.30 we will see Scotland play Italy.

At 15.30 Wales take on the mighty French and hopefully Wales will win, which would open the championship up to a free for all for the championship title.

If all goes to my angel planning, if Wales can beat France, with a low scoring game, ideally with France scoring no points then at 17.30 there will be an exciting and explosive clash between England and Ireland. If England beat Ireland then it will go to points scored and at present there is little in it so who knows what will happen. There are several people going out on Saturday to watch this momentous clash of Ben Cohen's thighs against the Mighty O'Driscoll's! Some of City of Bristol Rowing Club will be watching the England v Ireland match in Roo Bar so all are welcome to come along from 1700hrs onwards.

But don't forget your rugby shirts and singing voices!

One may ask why we join the rowing club. Is it to get fit or to find a fit partner? The latter seems to be the case and with spring in the air and camping on the horizon, incestual relations are inevitable.

Whilst looking for the perfect partner, you can also improve your physic making you alot more attractive to the opposite sex.

WEHORR Round up by Women's Captain

The 1st crew came 70th, we were aiming for top 80 so we're really pleased
with this - we came 113th last year and 87th the year before. We overtook 5 crews I think including a Thames crew (albeit a novice one).

The 2nd crew came 190th which is an improvement on the last 2 year's
results.

The usual pre-race disasters:
Jenny drove the trailer into special needs and Jihan's car broke down
near the Membury services. The AA finally turned up when Lucy Jewell
was starting changing into her racing kit with her leggings around her
ankles.

This is in the usual style of the women's squad following a tradition
set by Christi last year when she wrapped the fully loaded trailer
around some railings. I suspect that the above can be added to the
nominations list at the forthcoming awards ceremony.

As we all know the day has arrived for the WOMEN'S HEAD OF THE RIVER RACE.

Our senior women have been training extremely hard through endless ergos, weight training, cross training and plain hard core water sessions. People might have noticed how this is paying off with the new toned and exhilarated look the women now possess. Some of the men are even scared at the thought of having to compete with the new breed of woman power the club now boasts.

Tomorrow will put all this to the test when they race the most prestigious crews in the country! We wish you all the best girls! Go get em grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Who Said You Can't Capsize a Virus?

We Angels were sitting in Starbucks having a coffee on Saturday morning and admiring the rowers from City of Bristol, when along came two yellow vessels. At first we thought one of them was a submarine, which we thought was a bit strange, until we realised it was a rowing boat turned upside down.

After further investigations, it was revealed that two LTR men had decided to take a break from their Saturday morning jaunt along the river to have a coffee and Starbucks seemed to be the ideal place to stop. Unfortunately the pontoon was a lot higher than anticipated, resulting in Mr Abrams plunging head first into the murky waters.

Our advice to you Rich is that you leave the dips until you get to Spain!!!!!!

Oh my heavenly goodness!

What an exciting task the Women’s Club Captain has set upon her fellow rowers; I think we can all agree that the boats we now see whizzing about on the docks are like beautiful swans compared to the battered boats like Ian Gold.

The angels have heard the concerns of the clubs accountant and COBRC Committee and are also committed to raising funds through the Ergothon.

As Jane Green said “Your Club Needs You!” its time to step up to the mark and do your bit for the club.

On Sunday 23rd April 2006, it is anticipated that as many of us as possible will turn up at the Galleries, Broadmead to Erg and raise funds. There really is no excuse for not taking part, most of the City of Bristol has already seen us sweating it out on the docks, this is just a chance for the public to get some close up action and even take part them selves!

However we also need to raise sponsorship and Jane’s thinking big, potentially huge amounts could be raised if we all back the idea 110%. So start spreading the word maybe ask your boss for corporate sponsorship, pledge your life to your family, make new friends who you can then also ask for sponsorship.

The angels will also be stepping up and will help anyone on their journey to Sunday 23rd April 2006. Or if you have any ideas for fellow rowers on 'How to earn cash quickly and legally' Then post your ideas here!

Piggy Back Antics

After 1 or 200 cocktails in Henry Africa's, the quest
was to find a busy club that would play the rowers
refined taste in music, CHEESE!

We stumbled, cycled old granny bikes (or was that
Beevers?) and piggyback raced, which inevitably ended
up on the floor outside the chosen venue Versa (we had
never heard of it either!). But the bouncers still let us
in despite our unethical state of arrival!

This behavior was only the start of what was supposed
to be a wind down from a busy weekends rowing.

We entered the dodgy snooker hall /bar /club, to find only
7 others scattered around the place. Five minutes
later they left! It might have had something to do with
Jane informing them that there were a lot of single females
on the dance floor but when the chaps came over they were
asked or told to bend over and give piggyback rides.

From what us Angels remember it was Jane on Baggy, Dee
on Phil then Baggy on Julia then Dee on Baggy then a
wrestling competition broke out leaving the people in
question lying in a heap on the floor! But Jane who
still had the energy of a wild bull swept Dee off the
ground and swung her on to her back, then charged around
the bar with Dee squealing in excitement.

The final straw was a few members of the COBRC were
found tampering with the DJ equipment looking for Eye
of the Tiger only to find the Locomotion which lead to
a conga style dance. Shortly after that, the music
came to a record scratching halt and the lights flew on.
We can’t quite remember if we were thrown out but if
you fancy visiting Versa again, I wouldn’t say you
rowed for the City of Bristol!!!

A Raunchy Row

A certain couple at the club decided to take their relationship to another level this weekend and invited 6 of the men to share the experience. According to a source who was lucky enough to take part in this experimentation, it was quoted “ There was a lot of power coming through but on the whole a rocky ride”

I think the sweethearts will be keeping their antics at home in the future, but thanks for sharing it with us. We were all very impressed with the female who agreed to partake in the event with such short notice!

ONE TO WATCH

While flying around the docs as us angels do which is
far easier than rowing we have been keeping a close
eye on the new potential which first caught our
attentions in September!

The fine new female specimens were full of excitement
to be taking on this new venture in the world of
rowing but soon realised this sport wasn’t just gently
tapping a stick in the water with a few cucumber
sandwiches and tea. No they soon lost all these
assumptions when it was on the Evil Rowing Gadget Of
Shit: ERGOS. Then on the water in a boat and being
shouted at like a 2yr old. SIT UP, HANDS AWAY, LOOK
AHEAD.

Yet with perseverance this crew have grown with the
signets on the river into graceful swans (with a lot
more awareness and less oar injuries)

We saw the ladies in question ploughing up the river
early this morning with power, prestige and precision.
With Bristol head just around the corner we feel this
crew is one to watch! Senior woman watch out!

HUNK OF THE WEEK AWARD AND DANCE OFF CHAMPOIN GOES TO MARCUS!

It was a spectacular performance from all three contestants and despite Steve’s extra coaching from Tim Beaver, Marcus still won hands down! (Literally in some parts of the dance)

Photos were taken of the three hunks dancing it out but the moves proved too quick and dangerous to get any clear footage. But as you can see below Marcus was dominating the floor with his feet a continuous blur for moving so fast!

Marcus was then the proud owner to a fluffy crown and wand which he was extremely proud of but to his extreme disappointment both went missing by the end of the night!

Well done to everyone, it has to be said the best dancing was performed to what is now a COBRC favourite ‘Sweet Child of Mine’! See last pic!!

Bareback Mountain slumps at Awards!

We have received several serious concerned emails from our readers regarding several reports of indecent exposure on Saturday night.

If reports are to be true, due to the energetic dance moves on display in La Rocca; several of the senior men’s eight decided to get half naked! We are at present unable to ascertain whether this was part of a plan to show how their vigorous Tuesday night training regime has helped define their muscles or whether it was part of their tactics for impressing the girlies.

For a certain bird fanatic he himself removed his outer garment only to have his t-shirt ripped off his back by a fellow City of Bristol Rower. His clothes were then thrown across the room, and he was left bedazzled by the trauma and stroking his chest for comfort.

We are offering a counseling service for anyone who is still getting flash backs of this unsightly event and offer our aplogies to any poor unsuspecting members of the public.

Strawpedo Race

We were no sooner in the door when Steve and Julia decided that it would be a good idea to have a Strawpedo race.

The Irish lassie, Dee was appointed judge and boy did she take her role seriously.

Team One: Steve, Rachael, Stuart, and Marcus

Team Two: Julia, Jane, Ben (randomer), Rob and Sarah

After a lot of shouting to make the teams even and realizing there wasn’t a hope in hell to organize the already merry rowers to stand in two straight lines the race began..

Steve and Julia were first off – Steve slightly choking in the urgency to get the drink down but put his crew in a 0.2 second lead. The rest of the race went very un-sportsman like!!

Team One appeared to have finished first but were disqualified by the judge for cheating - Apparently Rachel started her drink before Morgan had finished his and Stuart threw the drink all over his face rather than into his mouth. So Team Two took the Glory and well deserved too. I was quite impressed with Jane's technique - her drink disappeared within seconds!! It must have taken a lot of practice to perfect it!

But I have it on good authority that Rob from Team two somehow didn't drink his bottle at all. I have no idea how the judge missed this....

There has been talk of a re-match on Sunday night, so if you partook in this event, you better get training for Boat(Strawpedo) Race Round 2!

Ice Ice Baby

After a count and a recount on the votes, two of our contestants are neck and neck with the third contestant not far behind.

The Angels will be eliminating one of the contestants later on today and the final two will have a dance off in La Rocca on Saturday night.

We have had many requests regarding the dance off song and we like "Ice Ice Baby" the most so will do our best to get that played for the final showdown.

There has also been many questions on what the prize will be. As we want to remain unknown, this proves very hard. We will put our heads together and a worthy prize will be presented (some how) and we might throw in a little something else too, depending on how impressed we are with the hot feet of the night!

Mens Squad Plagued By Blisters

Dear Angels

In the run up to Avon County Head, my crew decided to intensify our training regime, which was very stressful. As a result of this extra training, I have developed a number of extremely painful blisters on both of my hands. I’ve always considered myself well groomed and I am concerned that these unsightly blemishes will hinder my chances with the opposite sex. Will they respond to a rough touch? Is this a regularly reported problem and do you know of any remedies to bring about a speedy recovery?

Have you been led by Mr Bathurst’s example on how to relieve stress (as recently reported on Gurt Lush), or is this problem caused solely by rowing? For the time being, I recommend moisturise, moisturise, moisturise…..

I am one of the LTR women and I have lately been
informed I must purchase a wrestling type outfit which
is known as the All In One!

After trying this one piece on for the first time I
was in shock to find that the lycra clung to my body,
revealing a figure similar to that of a beached whale!

I am aware to become a professional rower I must
resort to this unflattering attire, but will this
sporty number reduce any chances I have with the
senior men?

hard decision but after receiving 7 similar letters to
the one above, we felt this particular issue must be
addressed or dressed in this case.

If you take a look at the fine specimens of the senior
womans squad you will see that with disciplined and
devoted training the All-In-One can in fact display
the fine female form to it’s best effect.

As from the males perspective the Lycra gives a rough
idea of how you might look naked so will in fact gain
great attention, even if your love handles are on display!

The Penny dropped for Beaver

It sounds as if cupid’s arrows were bouncing off all
the walls in Comfy on Saturday night. Although the
majority of the arrows powers were only short lived, the
angels have to report that one may still have a hold
over one matching. The club was thrown into shock
when the pair took to the empty dance floor and found
that moving lips together was a lot less effort than
actually moving their feet! As Gurt informed us
earlier in the week, the Penny finally dropped for
Beaver on Saturday night to the maximum. The two
unwound in his private quarters, with the physio showing
the best stretching positions one can use after a
night of splits and air guitar.

The latest on this situation is that Eager Beaver has been
seen building dams with Penny for a second time. Good
luck, us angels give you our full blessing!

An Eventful Night

We could not escape the events that surrounded a certain young man on
Saturday night. Us angels had to look twice to see the cool exterior of
this character torn away. With his new found confidence in women, drink
and dancing, there was no holding back. If he wasn’t gazing into the
eyes of random women, he was flying around the dance floor to Sweet Child
'o' Mine along with Marcus doing some reinterpretation of the moon
walk.

We thought his antics might come to an end when Sarah heard a cry from below the bar only to find the stud flat on his back, which is where he had ended up whilst trying to order a very unnecessary drink.

But this young man was in fighting spirits and decided to have it out
with one of the women's 1st VIII. Big mistake!!!! The next thing we knew he was being escorted from the club shouting MC HAMMER IS MY DAD!!!!!!!!

The Black Widow

She is often described as the Black Widow by those who know her best.

She entered Comfy along with her fellow rowers, but unlike the rest who
fled straight to the bar, the female in question started searching the club. Where
would she take her prey once she found him?????

The night was going well, she was chatting to Marcus about some earlier misunderstanding but had agreed to call a truce, little did he know she was searching for something a bit juicier (or in this case balder). Then she spotted her victim, bald and beautiful she thought with long legs to match hers.

It wasn't long till she had won his affections with her drinking skills. After a couple more pints of
Guinness, provided by Mr Eager Beaver (why he was plying her with drink all night
is anyones guess!) both Widow and Baldy went missing.

But as I tried to get to the toilets without being knocked over by the
self appointed new ball room dancers (Steve and Julia) who obviously
thought they were better than they actually were - I spotted the two in
the darkest corner of Comfy getting very close.

Later that night he was found headless wandering the streets outside Comfy! Poor fella!

Hi this is the Lord of truth speaking, from what I can see the actions of some fellow COB Rowers are getting away with far too much, and the only way to resolve this problem is for me to send some Angels down to report any and every incident that happens with in your scandalous club.

Well lucky for some but unlucky for others, the Angels were out on Saturday night!

A certain Mr Bromwich was seen swinging a young Irish lassie around the dance floor, she thought it was innocent but in fact he was only twirling her so fast so her skirt flew up! At the end of the night, Brom was seen whispering sweet nothings into her ear. One might think it was flattery to get her back to his love pad but in fact it was a bribe along the lines of Prince William is my twin brother and he has let me borrow his speed boat tomorrow if you would like to join me! Irish was intrigued so agreed, only when she arrived the following morning was greeted by Brom revving the engine of the launch! Nice try but it will take more than pretending your related to royalty and a lap round the docks on a mal functioning engine to win this one over!
